Chuckanut Dog Training Association offers lessons in three specific areas: Agility, Tracking, and Obedience. Each of these is described briefly below. For more detail click on the red button for each event.

Agility Obedience Tracking

Agility:

Agility is the ultimate game for you and your dog. It is also one of the most exciting canine sports for spectators. In agility, a dog demonstrates is agile nature and versatility by following cues from the handler through a timed obstacle course. The course has jumps, tunnels, weave poles, and other obstacles. Agility strengthens the bond between dogs and handlers, it is extremely fun, and it provides vigorous exercise for both! (AKC - Agility Overview)

Obedience:

C.D.T.A.'s Obedience training program is designed for pet owners who wish to have a well behaved dog. Training provides a way of establishing a system of communication and a solid working relationship between you and your dog. Through training, the dog learns what you expect when a command is given. This relationship establishes you as the leader of the pack and with consistent work, trust and love will grow. Your dog becomes a well behaved companion who is secure in his place beside you.

Tracking:

With a keen sense of smell – 100,000 times stronger than humans – dogs are often used to find lost people and animals, drugs, avalanche and disaster victims, and even to detect cancer. AKC Tracking is a canine sport that demonstrates a dog’s natural ability to recognize and follow a scent and is the foundation of canine search and rescue work. Unlike obedience and agility trials, where dogs respond to the owner’s commands, in tracking a dog is completely in charge, for only he knows how to use his nose to find and follow the track. (from AKC – Beginners Guide for Tracking)

Flyer for next class will be available in the fall.
